Künstlerische Leitung des NÖ Landesmuseum

Geboren 1954 in Oberösterreich. Studium der Geschichte, Germanistik, Kunstgeschichte und Publizistik in Salzburg und Paris. Seit 1989 Lehrtätigkeit an verschiedenen österreichischen Universitäten und an der Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien; 1991 gründete Aigner die internationale Foto-, Kunst- und Medienzeitschrift EIKON; 1997-2003 Direktor Kunsthalle Krems. 2000/2001 Projektleitung der Abteilung Kulturwissenschaften an der Donauuniversität Krems. Seit 2001 Direktor des Niederösterreichischen Landesmuseums in St. Pölten. 2004 Verleihung des "Ehrenkreuzes für Wissenschaft und Kunst" durch die Republik Österreich. 2005-2008 Präsident von ICOM Österreich (International Council of Museums). Zahlreiche Herausgeberschaften und Publikationen zur Bildenden Kunst, Fotografie und Medienkunst; lebt und arbeitet in Wien und Niederösterreich.

Art Director of Landesmuseum Lower Austria

Born in 1954 in Upper Austria, studied History, German, History of Arts and Journalism in Salzburg and Paris. Starting with 1989, he had teaching assignments at different Austrian Universities and at the University for Applied Arts in Vienna; in 1991, Mr. Aigner established the international Photo, Art and Media periodical EIKON; from 1997 to 2003 he was the director of the Kunsthalle Krems. In 2000/2001 he became the project director of the Arts department of the Danube University Krems. Starting with 2001, he has worked as the director of the Lower Austrian Landesmuseum in St. Pölten. He received the „Cross of Honor for Science and Art“ of the Republic of Austria in 2004. From 2005 to 2008 he has been President of the ICOM (International council of museums). He has held numerous publisher positions and published many works in the field of Applied Arts, Arts, Photography and Media art; he lives and works in Vienna and Lower Austria.
